Zta Theora (Slade) Unruh of Overland Park, Kansas, died Saturday, October 10, 2009 at home with her family. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, October 13 11:00 a.m. at Leawood Baptist Church, 83rd and State Line, Leawood, Kansas. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. (1 hour prior to the service). A private internment will follow the service at Floral Hills Cemetery. Zta was born on September 11, 1911, to Eugene William Slade and Lucinda Jane (Johnson) Slade on the family farm in Stafford County, Kansas. She grew up in that area and graduated from Stafford High School. She later attended Kansas City, Missouri Junior College. She and her beloved husband C. Ross Unruh, moved to Kansas City with their two daughters in 1937. They made Kansas City their life-long home until 1965 when they moved back to Kansas, living in Johnson County. She was employed by the Kansas City, Missouri Board of Education at Swenney, Manchester & Rollins School until 1973. She worked as a secretary in the administrative offices of the Board of Education and retired after 30 years. She loved her grandsons and granddaughters. She was a faithful member of 30 years with Leawood Baptist Church. One of her hobbies was writing and, earlier, she completed a family history. She was especially proud of the family's pioneer heritage. She loved watching birds. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and three sisters. Her survivors include her two daughters, Lucinda Jane McCafferty and Karyl Zta Burns of Overland Park, six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. She dearly loved the Lord, and the family suggests memorial contributions to Leawood Baptist Church in lieu of flowers. She loved us and we celebrate the joy she brought into our lives. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Fond memories and condolences for the family may be left at www.dwnewcomers.com. Arr. D. W.
