WINIFRED NORMAN MURPHY
Winifred Norman Murphy, age 86, Claridge Court, Prairie Village, Kansas passed away on July 25, 2010. She was born on December 16, 1923 to Flora Lee and W.O. (Billie) Norman in Kansas City, Missouri and she was a lifetime resident of Kansas City. She graduated from Sunset Hill School and Pine Manor College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. "Wannie" met and married Paul Gordon Murphy in Vero Beach, Florida on November 15, 1944. Paul was a Marine Air Corps fighter pilot in World War II
and Korea. He later became senior Vice President of United Missouri Mortgage Company for 35 years. Wannie and Paul were among the 280 charter members of the Village Presbyterian Church. She was an active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the Tomahawk Chapter of DAR, Kansas City Young Matrons, Indian Hills Country Club and Homestead Country Club. Her greatest love was the time she spent with her family. She was an active golfer, bowler and water skier. Wannie did needlework and knitting for the church, hospitals and other charities. The home at the Lake of the Ozarks was filled with family and friends where there was swimming, boating and skiing. Those who loved her will miss her smile and wonderful sense of humor. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 64 years. Surviving are her two daughters Diane Lee Davis and her husband Montague, of Tucson, Arizona and Kathleen Ann
Grendell, and her husband Eric of Tempe, Arizona. Also two sons, William Thomas Murphy and his wife Jeri, of Lenexa Kansas and Donald Gordon Murphy of Prairie Village, Kansas. Also surviving are nine beloved grandchildren, Amy McDaniel, Carrie Bernal; Eric, Dan, Cory and Chad Grendell; Christie Furney,
Jessica Oliver; and Craig Murphy. Also surviving are eleven great- grandchildren. A private burial will be held at Mt. Moriah cemetery for family. Memorial services will be held at Claridge Court, 8101 Mission
Road at 4pm on Thursday July 29, 2010. Reverend Tom Are of the Village Presbyterian Church will conduct the service. Following the memorial service a wine and punch reception will be held at Claridge Court where friends can visit with the family.
