William “Bill” M. Edwards, age 85, passed away Thursday, February 19th, 2015. Bill was born November 20, 1929 to Mary (Callahan) and Willy Edwards in Jackson County, Missouri and was raised Irish-Catholic. After high school, he joined the Navy and served in San Diego, CA and later went on to attend Rockhurst University. Even though he never earned his college degree, he had a sharp mind for business investments. Throughout the years, Bill owned and operated businesses including, Bill Edwards Conoco and co-owned I-35 Auto Parts, Heatherwood Apartments, and Millstone Lodge and Marina at the Lake of the Ozarks. He was also on the Board of Directors of Peoples Bank and the Board at Children’s Mercy that helped create and fund camps for children with disabilities. He may have been small in stature, but he had a big heart. Bill was always willing to help anyone, any cause, and any animal and was known to frequently donate to Animal Haven. Bill and his wife, Betty, were long-time parishioners at Curé of Ars Catholic Church. Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Betty Jean and brother-in-law, Jack Hannigan. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his sister, Eileen Hannigan; two daughters, Cathie Fioramonti and Linda A. Tate; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren and many friends. Memorial mass to be held Friday, February 27, 2015 at 1:00pm at Curé of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS 66206 with a gathering of friends and family to follow. A private family entombment will be held at a late date at Resurrection Cemetery. The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the Great Plains SPCA, the Kansas City Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association or Catholic Charities.
