William Joseph Woywod- November 30, 1949-April 14,2023.
Overland Park, Kansas- Better known to his friends as Joe and by his three grandchildren as Papa, passed away Friday April 14th, 2023 at the age of 73. William was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.
William was born to Martha and William Woywod and older brother George in Asland, Kentucky. The Woywod family made their way to Overland Park, KS. William growing up in Overland Park was a graduate of Shawnee Mission South and then later went on to graduate from Pittsburg State.
William’s stellar career began at Overland Park State Bank, now UMB as a personal banker. William left UMB in 2003, after over 25 years to solidify his dream of opening his own financial institution. In 2005 William opened up Lone Summit Bank where he served as President and CEO.
When William wasn’t working or with family, he had one place he always could be found, the golf course. Enjoying 18 holes with his close friends and eventually with his first grandson Sullivan Juhnke. Anyone who has played a round with him can attest to always hearing his infectious laugh pass over the greens. It was out on those greens that he created countless memories.
William also savored his time and dedication to his church. Being the welcoming face that ailing members of the congregation would see walk through their hospital door. He took great honor in visiting and praying with those members that were ill.
It also couldn’t go without saying that he loved cheering for his favorite college teams-Pitt State, K-State and of course the Kansas Jayhawks! William’s friendships were a great sense of support these last few years as he struggled with many health issues. His friends were family to him and his weekly Sunday Woywod family zoom calls filled his heart.
William is preceded in death by his loving parents William Woywod, Martha Woywod and survived by his brother George(Carmen); daughters Kelly, Laurie(Mark), Matthew(Karilyn); as well as three grandchildren: Dylan Patrick Mercer, Sullivan Scott Juhnke and Charlotte Anne Juhnke.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations in William’s name made to the Cancer Center of the University of Kansas Medical Center.
