William “Sam” Rice, 88, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2009. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel; burial in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
Sam was a WWII Navy veteran. He managed the Nu-Way drive-ins for 25 years and later owned and operated Sam and Sally’s Fish and Chips restaurant for over ten years. Sam’s passion was golfing and he also loved wood working. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheila Marie Rice, and his parents, Henry and Lillie Rice. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sally Rice, 5 daughters: Sandie (Howard) Wiebe, Sonja (Mike) Clark, Shelly (Dan) Stock, Sherry (Tim) Underwood, Stacy (Larry) Cabrera; 11 grandchildren; and 1 great granddaughter
