William Hill Kulp, 96, Lenexa, KS, passed away August 9, 2008.
Bill was born May 19, 1912 in Roanoke, Virginia, the third of six children born to Georgia Roberts Kulp and Frank McCullough Kulp. He was the last surviving sibling of his family.
Bill was a proud 1934 graduate of Virginia Military Institute and began his career with Western Auto Supply Company. In 1942, Bill was called into active duty. He served at Camp Bowie and Camp Hood, Texas as the Assistant Adjutant General of the post. He was promoted to Dallas, Texas where he was the Assistant Military Personnel Officer.
Bill continued service in the Army Reserves, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He worked 43 years for Western Auto, retiring in 1977.
While managing a warehouse in Greensboro, NC, he met and married Alice Amelia Varner Kulp. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 24, 2008. After moving to Kansas City in 1950, Bill and Alice raised their three daughters in Prairie Village, KS.
Mr. Kulp was a graduate of the Associated Course of the Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and a member of the Retired Officers Association, the Reserve Officers Association, The Military Order of the World Wars and the Asbury United Methodist Church.
Bill was a true southern gentleman in every way. He loved his family above all, and was respectful of every person, unselfish, honest, loyal and of the highest moral and ethical character. He had a keen interest in politics, world events and sports and was discussing the election and the energy crisis until the end of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; three daughters, Pam (Charles) Peffer , Christa (Rox) Voorhees and Susan (Cal) Stolle; and five grandchildren Molly and Clayton (Megan) Peffer, Ellen, John and Michael Stolle.
