William "Jobie" Jobson

September 30, 1915 — February 26, 2009

William A. "Jobie" Jobson, Jr., 93, of Prairie Village, KS, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be on Monday, March 2nd from 5:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. and Funeral services will be at 7:30 P.M. at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf. Graveside services will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, March 5th at the Sparkman-Hillcrest Cemetery, Dallas, TX. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Assn., 10580 Barkley St # 400, Overland Park, KS 66212.
Jobie was born in Ft. Worth, TX and lived his early years on a farm in Mesquite, TX with his brother and sister. He married Evelyn Jewell Monford August 14, 1937 in Dallas, TX. He worked for Neiman Marcus in Dallas in the stock room advancing to store buyer making frequent buying trips to Chicago and New York. Jobie served in the Army during WWII from 1944-1945. He saw combat in the Battle of the Bulge, and was with the first troops to liberate Dachau. He received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart. After the war, he returned to Neiman Marcus working there until 1948. He moved the family to Prairie Village in 1948 and worked for Woolf Brothers as buyer for the men’s shoe department. From 1953 until 1958 he worked for the Joyce Shoe Company of California. From 1958 until he retired at age 70, he was the General Agent for the Indianapolis Life Insurance Company in Overland Park earning the C.L.U. designation in 1970. Jobie lived for hunting, fishing and the out of doors. He also enjoyed various lunch and social groups, playing Gin Rummy anytime at the call of “Deal”. He and Evelyn were the second group of members recruited by Dr. Bob Meneilly to join the Village Church in 1948. He served the church as Youth Group Leader, Deacon, and Scout Master of Troop 91. Jobie was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn M. Jobson. Survivors include a son, William A. “Joby” Jobson, III and his wife Jan of Overland Park, KS and a daughter, Judy Dickerson and her husband David Dickerson of Cedar Hill, TX; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
