William Wolcott Groner, 84, Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on July 1st, 2010 at his residence. Memorial services will be held at 2:30pm Friday, July 9th at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 6401 Wornall Terrace, KC, Mo 64113. Bill Groner was born March 20, 1926 in Chicago and raised in Kansas City. Graduated Pembroke Hill and joined the Navy in 1943, Navy ROTC at UCLA graduated in 1945 and received an MBA from Wharton in 1948. He served six months at sea during WWII as an Ensign, was reactivated for Korea and was released from active duty in 1953 as a Lieutenant USNR. A member of the University Club, Bill wrote and performed the hilarious annual Nitwit shows. He coached boys and girls basketball teams and volunteered for numerous organizations, often as treasurer or bookkeeper. Bill’s passion, however, was golf. A member of the KCCC since childhood and member of the Kansas and Missouri Senior Golf Association, he took greatest pleasure in playing in senior tournaments and winning “whenever wisdom and treachery could overcome youth and skill”. He retired from Realex Corp after serving 33 years as secretary/treasurer, risk manager and assistant to the president and assisted for 10 years thereafter at H&R Block preparing tax returns and mentoring associates, whenever it was too cold to play golf.Preceded in death by his wife of 48 years Ann Montague Groner, he is survived by his brother Powell C. Groner Jr., his three children: Laurie Groner Tillett and husband Ed, Ann Powell Groner, William W. Groner, Jr. and wife Kelly; and five grandchildren: Capt Ryland Drennan, USMC; Kelly Drennan Letellier, Alexander William Groner, Jennifer and Emily Brown.
