William Dean Brown aged 74 Lenexa, KS passed away August 6th 2007. After a courageous 6 year battle with cancer he passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones. Memorial Services 10am Thursday August 9th at Holy Spirit Catholic Church 11300 W 103rd St Overland Park, KS 66214. Visitation will be 6-8pm Wednesday August 8th at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Overland Park Chapel 8201 Metcalf with a rosary at 7pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation 5799 Broadmoor St #504 Mission, KS 66202 or to Catholic Community Healthcare 2220 Central Ave Kansas City, KS 66102.
Bill was born June 19th 1933 in Wichita Kansas to Dean O. and Elnora Brown. He accepted an athletic scholarship to the University of Kansas where he was a member of the football and track teams. He served as an MP during the Korean War where he played on the All-Forces All-Star Football and Baseball teams. He was married to Arlene on July 25th 1959. He worked for Gerber Products for over 30 years in various management capacities. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and played a pivotal role in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He took an active role with his children which included coaching their football, baseball and softball teams. He enjoyed spending his time golfing, fishing, hunting, playing bridge and vacationing. He is proceeded in death by his parents, brother, Ted Brown and granddaughter Jennifer Brown. He is survived by his wife Arlene, children Terry Brown and wife Susan, Overland Park, KS; Bill Brown, Tampa, FL; Doug Brown and wife Patty, St. Louis, MO; Susan Brown, Lenexa, KS; Sandy Sharp and husband Keith, Shawnee, KS; and eleven grandchildren and sister, Pat Burnett, Independence, MO; and her children and grandchildren.
