Wayne Severson

November 23, 1951 — August 26, 2012

Wayne R. Severson, 60, of Roeland Park, KS passed away peacefully at his home on August 26, 2012 following a struggle with an aggressive form of cancer. He was kept comfortable and peaceful with friends, family and Odyssey Hospice. Wayne was born on November 23, 1951 in Atlantic City, NJ, the first child for Wayne E. and Martha Ann Elizabeth (Betty) Severson. Though he grew up in Kansas City, he always had very fond memories of summers spent with his grandparents in New Jersey. Wayne graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1971. He was employed as a barber for over 30 years in the Overland Park area and considered many of his clients to be good close friends, not just customers. Wayne led an uncomplicated life and enjoyed the simple pleasures of fishing, playing tennis, growing tomatoes and helping with his family's apartment business. He was a lover of cats and always welcomed an additional stray. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his parents and friends. One of Wayne's happiest achievements was serving as a surrogate father to Andrew Nepstad. The Nepstads became like a second family to him. Wayne is survived by his father –Wayne E. Severson, brother - Len Severson (Melissa), sister – Cory Hudson, niece– Christina Hudson and surrogate son Andrew Nepstad. He also leaves behind many lifelong friends.
A memorial service to honor Wayne's life will be held at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2012. Wayne's ashes will be interred in New Gretna, NJ in the family plot that includes his mother, grandparents and great grandparents.
