Vivian Ruth Hughes, 93, passed away October 04, 2019. Vivian was born in Emporia, KS to Oakley Edward Borders and Iva (Carey) Borders and was the only daughter of their six children. Vivian graduated from Argentine High School in Kansas City, KS. She married Frank C. Hughes, Sr. on October 16, 1945 and they were blessed with two children, Jackie Ruth and Frank Jr. Vivian worked at Commerce Bank and later Owens Corning Fiberglass. After retiring from Owens Corning, Vivian moved to Tonganoxie, KS. Vivian later worked part-time at Central Middle School in Lawrence, KS and Petro and Pantry in Tonganoxie. Vivian enjoyed playing cards, reading, and caring for her two grandchildren.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank Sr.; daughter, Jackie; and brothers Richard, Keith, and Francis (Neil). She is survived by son, Frank Jr. and wife Cindy; granddaughter Leona Scoular and her husband Andrew; grandson John Hughes and his wife Morgan along their children, Trenton, Lillian, and Arabelle Hughes; in addition to her brother Jay Borders; brother Lee Borders and his wife Arlene; and sister-in-law Joyce Borders.
In her last years, Vivian was well cared for at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater, KS and in the last days, Harry Hines Hospice. The family recommends donations to Wheat State Manor or Harry Hines Hospice in lieu of flowers.
