Virginia M. (Ewen) Nash, “Ginny”, 78, of Lenexa, KS, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, died Saturday, July 2, 2011 after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Ginny was born on June 22, 1933, in Kampsville, IL, to Carl M. and Goldie (Becker) Ewen, the third of four children. The family later moved to East Alton, IL. She attended Wood River High School in Wood River, IL, and cultivated a group of friends she would maintain until her death. After high school graduation, she went to work in the administrative office of Shell Oil. On a blind date at midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, 1952, she met the love of her life, Raymond V. Nash. The couple married in 1956 and, due to Ray’s job with IBM, immediately moved to Wichita, KS, where all three of their children were born. In 1964, they relocated to Poughkeepsie, NY, then Florissant, MO. In 1969, they moved one last time and settled in Lenexa, KS. Ginny relished her roles as wife and mother and was the best at both. Her joy in her family and her unconditional love shone through in all she did.
She returned to the work force in 1980, eventually opening her own floral business, “Ginny’s Wreaths and Designs” out of her home.
Her utter delight in her grandchildren was one of the defining characteristics of her last 18 years of life.
Ginny’s involvement outside the home increased after her husband’s death. She became an avid Jazzerciser, a Master Gardener, and active in Holy Spirit Parish.
Ginny was a woman of uncommon courage and faith. She always put others before herself and always believed the best of everyone.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. David Emmott, Dr. David Lee, and Tammi of Olathe Hospice for their wonderful care of Mom while she was ill.
Ginny was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, her son, Mike, her parents, and her brother, Carl G. Ewen. Ginny is survived by her daughter Ann Neal, (husband Frank), Shawnee, her daughter Lisa Stoecklein, (husband Steve), Lenexa, her grandchildren Maggie Neal, Tyler, Quinton and Parker Stoecklein, Meghan & Melanie Nash & Shelby Haller, Winston-Salem, NC, sisters Marty Funke, Edwardsville, IL and Mary Wilson, Old Monroe, MO, as well as several dear nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but especially by all those who loved her.
Visitation will take place at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, from 6:30-8:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 6 at 10:00 am, with interment at Resurrection Cemetery, 83rd & Quivira, Lenexa, KS.
