Vernon E. Hauser, 88, of Leawood, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2009. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday at Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 W. 75th, Prairie Village, Kansas with burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. There will be a visitation prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to Overland Park Kiwanis or the church.
Vernon was born July 27, 1920 in Kansas City, KS to Herman and Rose Hauser. He graduated from Rosedale High School and Kansas City Junior College and was a decorated World War II veteran serving in the US Army Air Corps. He was a nose gunner on a B-24 flying thirty-five sorties and was awarded the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. Vernon was an avid golfer and was active in Overland Park Kiwanis where he had served as president, and was active at Asbury United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Avis Hauser, in 1977. He is also survived by his wife Nancy Strandberg and his wife Barbara Peterson. He is survived by his fiance’ Mary Jayne Engendorff and his three children Dale Hauser and wife Dawn, Donna O’Neal, and Susan Ashley and husband Chirs; grandchildren Brian and Michael Hauser, Amy Gurley and her husband Greg, Kevin O’Neal, Jeremy and Dustin Shull and Ryan Ashley; and great-granddaughters Madilyn Hauser and Kate and Jane Gurley.
Vernon had a wonderful sense humor and a great love of life and people. He was committed to helping others and he will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
