Vernon Lealon Drown, 94, of Lenexa, KS, died Saturday, April 18, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at the D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel; burial in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions to Hospice Care of Kansas, 15329 W. 95th Street, Lenexa, KS 66219.
Vernon was born August 14, 1914 in Pineville, AR the son of Thurman and Bertha Estes Drown. He retired from National Can Corp in Lenexa at the age of 62. He has lived in the Lenexa area since 1954. Vernon was a Navy veteran of WWII serving on the USS Boxer. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 6654 in DeSota, KS. Vernon was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Lenexa, KS.
Vernon married L. Imogene Sexton on August 3, 1950 in Harrison, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Drown, sister, Paulene Brinsfield; and a brother, Floyd Drown. Survivors include his wife, Imogene; a son, Dale Young (Jean) of Burnet, TX; a daughter, Peggy Alagna (Joe) of Bucyrus, KS ; and a son, Dennis Drown (Sandra) of Lee’s Summit, MO; eight grandchildren: Diana Huber (Dan), Doug Alagna (Tracy), Dena Thompson (John), Eli Drown (Melynde), Aaron Drown (Jenny), Jason Palczyski, Miles Colunga, and Martika Harris; ten great grandchildren—the eleventh to be born in August.
