Vera Jean (Douthat) Sink, 88, passed away in her home on June 6th, 2008. Jean was born September 1st, 1919 in Fort Smith Arkansas to Martha and Ned (E.M.) Douthat. She spent the majority of her life in Kansas City. She graduated from Lindenwood College in St. Charles Missouri, and studied music at Julliard in New York City and at the Kansas City Conservatory of Music. Jean was a singer of professional caliber, appearing frequently on the concert stage. She sang the soprano solos in Handel?s Messiah with the Kansas City Symphony. She was also a lifetime member of Mu Phi Epsilon. In 1950, she married William Robert Sink at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral. They had three children, Lisa, Gina, and Kevin. Jean was a devoted wife and mother, and remained active in the Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Robert Sink, her parents, Martha and E.M. Douthat, her brother, E.M. Douthat Jr., and her sister, Virginia Douthat Parzybok. She is survived by her children, Lisa Whitlow, Gina Sink, and Kevin Sink; grandchildren Kevin Toerne and Karen Toerne, Abigail Harrison, and Stefan and Annika Sink, and her great-granddaughter Kyla Toerne-Corta.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 12 at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, 13th and Broadway, Kansas City, Missouri. Inurnment in Forest Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to Children?s Mercy Hospital or to the American Diabetes Association.
