Velma Hammon Miller, 96, of Lenexa, KS passed away Saturday, August 13, 2011. She was born in Forest City, MO on March 1, 1915 and moved to Kansas City, MO as a young child. Velma was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Charles William Hammon. She is survived by her children, Marilyn Wheeler of Olathe, KS and Charlene Taton of Houston, TX; grandchildren Beth, Jill, Jeff and Brian; 5 great grandchildren; and a sister, Doris and Jim Stafford of Highlands Ranch, CO. Velma is also survived by her husband, Maurice Miller of Independence, MO and his son John Loren and Linda Miller, and daughter Maureen and Bill Elder. Memorial services will be Tuesday, August 16, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at D.W. Newcomer' Sons Overland Park Chapel. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Lakeview Village Care Center, who lovingly cared for Velma.
