Thomas Clifton Wright, 67 years old of Overland Park, KS, passed away Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011 after an extended illness. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel where sharing of memories will begin at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Girl Scouts at 8383 Blue Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64133 Council Camps and Outdoor Programming www.girlscoutsksmo.org.
Tom graduated from Rockhurst High School and Officer Candidacy School. Tom served two tours in Vietnam where he was in the 47th Infantry. Tom was a paratrooper. Upon return, he was a Commander of a Special Forces unit in the United States Army Reserves. He was employed most of his working life by the Girl Scouts and was driven to serve his country and community. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Walter Bartlett Wright. Survivors include his wife, Mary and their son, Walter; a son, Jeffrey of Orlando, FL; a daughter, Victoria Gruenewald of Mission, KS; his mother, Ruth Wright of Overland Park, KS; a sister, Sharon Reilly of Manhattan, KS; a brother, Jim Wright of Phoenix, AZ; and eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
