Thomas "Tom" J. Poulos, Sr., 80, of Olathe, KS, passed away unexpectedly on December 25, 2013.
Tom was born on November 11, 1933 in Malamata, Greece to Dimitri and Aggeliki Chrysanthopoulos, one of 11 children. Tom migrated to the U.S. with three of his siblings in his late teens. Tom was a hard-working man, retiring after 46 years of service in 1999 from Imperial Eastman as Shop Foreman. He enjoyed wood-working during his retirement, having made many treasured gifts for friends and family over the years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Marguerite, his four children, Demetria Nickerson of Arlington Heights, IL, Maria (Jon) Harris of Olathe, KS Tom Poulos, Jr. of Olathe, KS and Michelle (Keith) Smith of Shawnee, KS, six grandchildren, Nicholas Slaven of Arlington Heights, IL, Samantha Slaven of Rolling Meadows, IL, Christina Guerrero of Olathe, KS, Jonny Harris of Olathe, KS, Austin Smith of Shawnee, KS, Bryan Smith of Shawnee, KS, Two great-grandchildren, Angelina and Amani, six siblings, Bessie (Tim) Grammatis, Joanne (Ray) Campbell, Maria Korosis, Mike (Barbara) Chrysanthopoulos, Paul (Vickie) Poulos, Connie (George) Stamatopoulos, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and four siblings, George Poulos, and Pete, Tony, and Gus Chrysanthopoulos.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 27th, 5-7 PM, with the Trisagion at 6:30 PM, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 28th, 11:00 AM, at St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church, 8100 W 95th St, Overland Park, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church.
