Thomas Murchison Pickard, 87, Overland Park, Kansas, passed away
Friday, April 30, 2010, at K.C. Hospice House. Memorial services
will be held Tuesday, May 4 at 2 p.m. at The Colonial Church in
Prairie Village. Cremation. Internment will be in Resthaven
Cemetery, Des Moines, IA.
Tom was born October 29, 1922 to Benjamin and Fannie Pickard at home
in Greensboro, N.C. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served as a
radar technician on aircraft carriers in the Pacific during World War
II. After his military service, he attended the University of
Missouri and received his bachelor’s degree in business in 1948. On
June 4, 1948 he married Ann Kathryn Dunham. They celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary in 1998.
Tom had a long, highly successful career as a salesman, most recently
with Modern Business Systems in Kansas City. He was a member of the
Shriners, served as a Kansas Long-Term Care Ombudsman, was active at
the Paul Henson Family YMCA and was a long-time member of Colonial
Church.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife Ann in 2001 and his daughter
Pam in 1957. Survivors include daughters, Kathy Pickard, Patty
Mamula and her husband Greg, grandsons, Aaron, Phillip and Robert,
sister-in-law, Patty Cunningham and brother-in-law, A.T. Dunham.
Memorial contributions are suggested to K.C. Hospice, The Colonial
Church or The Salvation Army.
