Thomas Kent (TK) Lewis, age 59, passed away May 25, 2011, at his home in Shawnee, Kansas after an eight year battle with a brain tumor.
TK was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on February 11, 1952, to Harold Thomas and Evelyn Jane (Weatherill) Lewis. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1970 and received a business degree from University of Nebraska at Omaha. TK worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in Omaha and moved to Olathe, Kansas in 1988 to work for Word Tech Office Systems. He was later employed as a project manager at Sprint and retired in 2003 when he became ill.
TK enjoyed most sports, but had a special love for baseball that took him to many major league ballparks throughout the United States during his extensive travel. He was active in the game for most of his life, participating as a player, umpire and coach. He was an avid reader with an amazing sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Evelyn Weatherill and Harold and Lillian Lewis.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Herrelson-Lewis; daughters, Marla Lewis Stoltenberg (Mark)of Omaha, Nebraska; Kristin Herrelson (Eric Helms) of Overland Park, Kansas; sons, Craig Herrelson of Overland Park, Kansas; and Adam Herrelson of Lawrence, Kansas; granddaughters Kaylea Clark and Kate Stoltenberg; his parents; brothers, Jim of Omaha, Nebraska; John (Deb) Mickey of Fountain Inn, South Carolina; and Joe Mickey of Council Bluffs; sisters, Susan Lewis of Sedona, Arizona; Robin Schultz of Council Bluffs, and Laurie (Perry) Rittenbach of Omaha, Nebraska; and many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
TK has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel on Sunday, May 29,2011, at 2:00 PM. Donations may be made to the Duke Brain Tumor Center at www.gifts.duke.edu, or to the National Brain Tumor Society at www.braintumor.org.
