Thomas F. Houston, 77, Prairie Village, KS, passed away February 16, at Timberlake Care Center. He is survived by his wife Evelyn, son Mark and wife Robin, daughter Laura and husband Dave, daughter Julie and husband Steve, son Joe and wife Christy and six grandchildren and two adult step-grandchildren. Other survivors include an older brother James of Elko, NV, a twin brother Robert of Buckner, MO, a younger sister Annette of Lake of the Ozarks and St. Louis, MO, and a younger brother William of Kerrville, TX.
Tom attended high school in Norborne, MO and then went to the University of Missouri, Columbia where he earned Journalism and History degrees. He married Evelyn Hammond in 1958. He worked for Cook Paint and Lee Jeans in Johnson County and then worked for 33 years and retired from Tension Envelope in Kansas City, MO and was active in the Kansas City Direct Marketing Association. While his kids were young, he was active in the YMCA Indian Guides and Indian Princesses and Troop 396 of the Boy Scouts. After retirement, he enjoyed walking at the off-leash dog park and volunteering at local animal shelters, with Habitat for Humanity and Catch-A—Ride, where he helped the elderly get to their doctors appointments and errands.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on February 25 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Parkinson's Foundation.
