Ted McNutt, M.D., 81, of Overland Park, KS passed away December 10, 2010. Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at Hillcrest Covenant Church, 87th and Nall, Prairie Village, KS.
Ted was born, November 4, 1929 in Lewis, KS and grew up in Hays, KS. He completed his medical degree at the University of Kansas in 1955, specializing in family practice. From 1956-1958, Ted served as a First Lieutenant in the US Navy, Millington, TN. Then being a highly adventuresome person, Ted set out to see the world and moved his young family to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, where he was a physician in ARAMCO, Arabian American Oil Company. During this time he traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East. In 1961 he returned to practice family medicine initially in Dodge City, KS and beginning in 1963 in the Kansas City area. In 1981, at 52 years of age, he undertook a psychiatry residency at Western Missouri Mental Health and went on to complete a fellowship in child psychiatry. He then served as the lead psychiatrist at the Gillis Home for Boys, KC, MO and the Chief of Psychiatry at the Veterans Administration in Leavenworth, KS, retiring in 1998. In retirement, Ted continued to enjoy travel, taking several international trips. He also enjoyed time at his home at the Lake of the Ozarks and above all else time with his beloved wife Cynthia. He lived life to the fullest and brought love, care and joy to all.
Ted is preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Lynn McNutt and is survived by wife Cynthia McNutt, daughter Ann McNutt Thompson, son-in-law Drew Thompson and grandchildren, Sara and Luke.
Ted’s final resting place is Wilson Cemetery, Wilson, Kansas. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 811 West Evergreen Avenue, Chicago, Il.
