Susan "Sue" P. Illman, 85, longtime Prairie Village resident, passed away Dec. 14, 2006. Sue was born on June 17, 1921 in Albany, GA. She attended Georgia State Women's College in Valdosta and continued her education at the University of Georgia, where she earned a degree in journalism and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Sue met her husband, Paul "Pete" Illman, while he was stationed at Turner Air Force base in Albany and they were married July 23, 1943. After the war, Sue and Pete relocated to Boston and New York, before finally settling in Prairie Village. Sue was a Red Cross volunteer and a member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. Sue was active in local politics, volunteering many years at the Johnson County Republican Headquarters. As a frequent contributor to many charitable organizations, Sue will be remembered for her compassionate and giving spirit. Her dry wit and sense of humor were endearing to all who knew her. Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Pete, in Feb. 2002 and granddaughter Amanda Divine, in Aug.12, 2006. She is survived by son, Paul E. "Pete" Illman, III, Overland Park; daughters, Susan (Jerry) Freedman, Overland Park; Nancy Kyle (Mike) Carroll, Lake St. Louis, MO; Peggy Illman, Overland Park; grandchildren Brad and Amy Freedman; Danielle, Paige and Megan Carroll; and brothers, Carl "Bunny" Pritchett, Jr., Leesburg, GA and Thomas H. Pritchett, of Albany, GA; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 16th at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf. Burial in Corinth Cemetery, Prairie Village, KS. Visitation will be 10-11:00 A.M., Saturday at the chapel prior to the service.
