Stan Thirsk, 87, of Overland Park, KS passed away May 16, 2015. His visitation will be held 5-7pm, Wednesday, May 20th at Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Ave. His memorial service will be held 10am, Thursday, May 21st at the Overland Park Chapel. Stan was born March 22, 1928 in Winfield, KS to Homer and Clara Ruth Thirsk. He started his Golf career in Wichita, KS at Sim Park. He came to Kansas City to work as an Assistant Professional at Mission Hills Country Club. In 1961, he became the Head Professional at Kansas City Country Club where he remained until he retired in 1992. After retirement, he continued to teach at Blue Hills Country Club. During his golf career, he became an accomplished player and teacher making a reputation for himself locally. He played in a number of national events including: U.S. Opens, P.G.As., winning the Senior PGA National Championship in 1989 and the National Senior Club Pro Championship. He was named PGA Golf Professional of the year in 1980. Stan was inducted into the Kansas Golf Hall of Fame in 1992. He was a devout Christian and longtime member of the Nall Avenue Baptist Church. He was known for his integrity, honesty, humility and devotion to his family. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Audrey; two daughters, Gay Thirsk Scharlau (Tom) and Jodie Thirsk Lyman (Steve); 7 grandchildren: Jason Cooper, Tracy Rhynerson, Kristin, Kyle, and Kevin Scharlau, Brandon and Bradley Lyman; 8 great grandchildren, Mason, Kaylee, Kendall, Kinlee Jo, Moriah, Eliza, Norah and Phinneas.
