Mr. Samuel Smith

June 17, 1921 — January 27, 2009

Samuel “Sam” T. Smith, 87, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, January 27, 2009 at Kingswood Manor.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2009 at Lenexa Baptist Church 15320 W 87th St. Parkway, Lenexa, KS 66219. Burial to follow at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, Shawnee, KS. Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. to time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Lenexa Baptist Church Building Fund.
Sam was born in 1921 at Dardanelle, AR. As a young man of 17, Sam demonstrated his love for his country by joining the Arkansas National Guard and then the U.S. Army serving 14 years first in WWII and later the Korean War.
In 1945, Sam met the love of his life, Jessie Butler. They worked side by side building and nurturing their family and serving the Lord for 63 years.
Sam worked as an insurance adjuster in Jonesboro, AR and then became the owner of Sam Smith’s Insurance Agency in West Memphis, AR. He and Jessie retired to Lakeland, FL in 1985. They relocated to Kansas City, KS in 2004 to be closer to family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Gladys Smith, and his daughter, Susan Smith. He will be missed by his devoted wife, Jessie of the home; his son, Greg Smith of Orange Park, FL; his daughter, Alicia Dean of Lenexa, KS and their spouses; his grandchildren, Brandon and Jennifer Dean of Lenexa, KS and Jessica Smith of Columbus, MS; his great grandchildren, Mason and Ethan Dean of Lenexa, KS; his brother, Murl Smith of Jonesboro, AR and his nephews, Brad Smith of Jonesboro, AR and Mark Smith of Fayetteville, AR.
The family is at peace knowing Sam in now healthy and whole, rejoicing and praising his Lord and Savior.
