Samuel Burr Sifers 91, of Prairie Village, KS, died December 10, 2009.

Memorial Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday December 14, 2009 at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road in Prairie Village, Kansas.

Burr was born June 3, 1918, in Kansas City, Missouri and was the youngest son of Harry and Cecil Sifers. He was a graduate of Country Day School and the University of Kansas. He was an active member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and received the Phi-of-the-Year award in 1966 along with his older brother, Clarence. He would later serve as President of the Kansas City Chapter of the Kansas University Alumni Association.

Burr was a Lieutenant in the Navy during War War II, serving as a supply officer while stationed at the Jacksonville, Florida Naval Air Station. He returned to Kansas City after the War and entered into his family's candy business, the Sifers -Valomilk Confectionary Company, with his father and brother. He later was elected Chairman of the Board and President of the National Confectioner's Association.

A life long golfer, he found ways to share the joy he found in playing by working behind the scenes to create opportunities for young people who showed an interest in the game. He was President of the Kansas City Golf Association and was presented the KCGA Gof-Fer award in 1958. He was also a director of the Western Golf Association. Burr was life long Rotarian, and past President of Kansas City Rotary Club 13.

He was elected as a Republican to the Kansas House of Representatives in 1977, representing the 25th District for 11 years. After his retirement, he became one of the founding members of the Executive Service Corps of Greater Kansas City. He was a member of Mission Hills Country Club, enjoying the status of being their most senior member over the last few years. Burr was also a long time member of The Vanguard Club. He has been very active with the FCA Bible study group at the Village Presbyterian Church.

He was devoted to his wife of 68 years Maxine Miller Sifers, and his children, Christina Uible and husband David of Rocky River, OH, Laura Sutherland and husband Craig of Kansas City, Steven Sifers also of Kansas City. He had five grandchildren Lisa and Lauren Alvarez, Craig, James and Cullen Sutherland one great grand child, Elena.
