Ruth Owen, 95, Overland Park, KS, passed on Friday, July 25, 2008 at Manor Care of Overland Park. The Reverend Meg McLaughlin, Pastor at Village Presbyterian Church, will lead a memorial service on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Rd., Prairie Village, KS 66208.
Ruth was born in Rocky Ford, Oklahoma on December 4, 1912. She attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, OK. Ruth worked for several years for the U.S. Civil Service at Fort Sill, OK. She was married for over 65 years to Jay Owen, who preceded her in death in 1997. For all her adult life, she was devoted to and active in the Presbyterian Church. Ruth was dedicated to her husband, her family, and to her life as a homemaker. She greatly enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.
Ruth, who was known as ?Mama Ruth? to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, is survived by her daughter, Jan Wood, and her husband, Rex Wood, and his brother, David Wood, all of Overland Park; two grandchildren, Glenn Charles Wood, and his wife, LeAnn Gish Wood, Houston, TX and Leslie Lynn Wood, Overland Park; and three great-grandchildren, Brian Charles, Kevin Glenn, and Ethan Michael Wood, all of Houston, TX.
Also surviving are four very dear nieces: Jackie Caldwell, CA, Ocie Rhames, TX, Marjorie Jo Dudley, OK, and Shannon Davis, OK.
The family extends many thanks to the staff of Manor Care and to Heartland Hospice.
