Ronald L. "Ron" Johnson, 84, of Overland Park, KS, died on February 12, 2014 at KU Medical Center.
Ron was born on August 23, 1929 in Newhall, IA to Lester and Margaret (Olson) Johnson. He was a 1947 graduate of Newhall High School and he served in the U.S. Army as a PFC, Field Artillery Unit. After being honorably discharged, he took a position with the FBI in Washington DC. In 1952, Ron joined the Norfolk and Western Railway as a patrolman in Portsmouth, OH and in 1958, joined the Rock Island Railroad in Chicago. He was transferred to Kansas City, where he was promoted to Special Agent and later, Assistant Division Special Agent. He retired from the St. Louis Southwestern Railway in 1991, after 36 years of service.
Ron was a life-long Chicago Cubs fan and University of Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Before and during retirement, Ron umpired high school basketball and softball games. Ron was a dog lover and he be remembered as a wonderful companion to B.J, his favorite Yorkie.
Ron leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Katholene, two sons, Kevin (Linda) Johnson of Loch Lloyd, MO, and Deric (Lisa) Johnson of Pittsburgh, PA, three grandchildren, Whitney Johnson of Loch Lloyd, MO, Rachel and Kendall Johnson of Pittsburgh, PA, a sister, Rayleen Pearson of Cedar Rapids, IA, and many cousins throughout the country.
The family will receive friends in Saturday, February 15th, 10-11, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite animal charity.
