Ronald Johnson

Ronald Jerome Johnson, 82, died January 20th at his home in Prairie
Village, KS. He was editor of the* Kansas City Grain Market Review* for 31
years, retiring in 1993 when the daily publication of the Kansas City Board
of Trade as a printed newspaper ended. He also served as an assistant vice
president of the Board of Trade.
While editing the daily publication he also wrote a weekly column on grain
market trends and values for Bakery Magazine for more than 20 years and was
a consultant and daily contributor to the Commodity News Service, a major
national news wire service. In the 1970s he did live radio broadcasts from
the trading floor of the Board of Trade for WDAF radio and for KKOY radio of
Chanute Kansas.
Born Feb. 1 1928 in Bismark, North Dakota to Chester J. and Marian L.
Johnson, he lived in the Kansas City area since the age of four except for
U.S. Army service from 1948 to 1952 on Russian Zone boarder patrol duty with
the 24th Constabulary Squadron in West Germany.
Following his return from military duty he attended the Junior College at
39th and McGee and later was a journalism major at the University of
Missouri, Columbia. After transferring to Kansas City University he became
editor of the school's newspaper the* University News*. At the same time he
was employed by the *Kansas City Star* as a correspondent and latte worker
as a reporter for the Star's morning edition, *The Kansas City Times*.
Ron was an active father and leader in neighborhood events. He served two
terms as president of South Suburban Basketball Association and was twice
elected president of the Ruskin Hills Homes Association.
He considered himself twice blessed to have had two happy marriages. His
first wife, Ingrid Liane (Weber) Johnson died in 1984 after a three year
struggle with cancer. In April 2000 he married Willodean Shwartz.
Ron was preceded in death by his first wife, Ingrid Liane Johnson, and older brother Jack Johnson. Surviving are his wife Willodean, his five children and their spouses:
Patricia and Donald Stokes of Roeland Park, Teresa and John Renner and
Constance and Yigit Boysan of the Brookside area, Michael and Josephine
Johnson, West Bridgeford, England, and Eric and Sarah Johnson, Littleton
Colorado, three step daughters: Anne Premont, Linda Litzinger, and Laurie
Corrick; his siblings: Jerry (Peggy) Johnson, Mary Ann Boyer, Joyce (Fred) Obermeier; his ten grandchildren: Jessica Johnson, Nathan Cox, Eric Renner,
Ingrid Renner, Brock Boysan, Alex Boysan, Sophia Johnson, Noah Johnson, Liam
Johnson, and Michael Johnson, and great granddaughter Madelyn Lashmet.
