Roland R. Griffin, 86, of Kansas City, KS passed away March 9, 2011. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 12, at Stony Point Christian Church, 149 S. 78th St, Kansas City, KS. Visitation will precede from 10-11:00 at the church.
Roland was born October 8, 1924 to Roland Sr. and Ruby Griffin in Winston Salem, NC. Roland was a veteran of WWII, where he ran the P.X. in Calcutta, India. Roland married Gail Bryant on August 25, 1946. He was also a teacher for 34 years and retired from teaching at Shawnee Mission East High School. After retirement Roland and Gail ran a thrift shop for Keys Youth Services in Mission, KS.
Roland is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Thomas. Survivors include his wife Gail of 64 years, daughters Barbara Griffin, and Sue Amego(Steve), son Fred Griffin(Connie), grandchildren Dan Amego, Bill Amego, and Michelle Carlson, 6 great-grandchildren, sister Peggy Cogswell(James), and sister-in-law Virginia Griffin.
