ROBERTA JEAN (BROWN) GRIFFING
Roberta Jean Griffing, 87, of Prairie Village, KS, passed away at her home on Thursday, July 29, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 31, at Valley View United Methodist Church, 8412 W. 95th St. Overland Park, KS.
Roberta was born in Natoma, KS, on October 7, 1922. Her parents were Henry B. Brown and Anna (Hackerott) Brown. Although her mother passed away when she was nine, she had a happy childhood, graduated from Natoma High school and attended Fort Hays University for two years. She taught school for two years and then returned to school to finish her education. While there she met her future husband, Warner, and they were married on June 2, 1946. They moved to Lawrence, KS where Warren finished his master’s degree. Their first son, George, was born here then came moves to Tennessee, Massachusetts, and Ireland, where their second son, John was born. Upon returning to the States they lived in Idaho, North Carolina and finally moving back home to Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, son, John, a grandson, Nathaniel, and a brother, Robert Brown. She is survived by her son, Dr. George T. Griffing, wife, Bonnie, Grandson, Sam, and granddaughter, Emily of St. Louis, MO, two sisters, Della Crawford of Overland Park, KS, and Anna West of Hays, KS, and many nieces and nephews and friends.
