Beloved husband and father, Robert W. Wainwright, 76, died peacefully surrounded by his family at Shawnee Mission Medical Center on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, in Merriam, Kan.
Robert is survived by Ellen, his wife of 53-years, of their home in Mission, Kan. He is also survived by his son, Brian R. Wainwright, his wife Tammy, and their son Brett of Prairie Village; and by his beloved daughter, Laura Moore and her husband, Scott, of Kansas City. He is also survived by his sister, Diane Dodds Fisher of Tucson, Ariz., brother-in-law Fred Humphrey and sister-in-law, Ruth Anne Rich of Kansas City.
Robert was born on April 13, 1939 in Kansas City, Mo. He graduated from University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1961.
For 40-years, Robert was an insurance underwriter for BMA and Pyramid Life in the Kansas City area.
As a young man, he was a distinguished amateur golfer and he bestowed his love of golf upon his son, Brian, who went on to become a PGA Golf Professional. An avid sports fan, Robert loved and supported the Kansas City Chiefs, the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kansas City Royals. It was especially meaningful for Robert to witness the Royals win the 2015 World Series.
As a doting dad, Robert loved to listen to stories told by his daughter Laura, a former elementary school teacher, about the antics of the children in her classroom.
Robert, a devoted and loving husband and father, will be greatly missed by his family.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at Nall Avenue Baptist Church, 6701 Nall Ave., in Prairie Village. Funeral will be held following the visitation at 11 a.m. at the church. Private burial service will be held for immediate family at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Overland Park, Kan.
