ROBERT JOHN SIMMONS
Robert John Simmons, 77, of Prairie Village, KS, passed away, August 5, 2011. A celebration of his life will be held from 6pm – 8pm, August 12, at D.W. Newcomer’s Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS 66204. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Saint Luke's Home Care & Hospice c/o Saint Luke's Hospital Foundation 4225 Baltimore Ave. Kansas City, MO 64111, or American Heart Association. Bob was born January 9, 1934, in Kansas City, MO, the son of Dayton Magruder Simmons and Margaret Catherine Dunlay Simmons. Bob was a U.S. Navy veteran and graduated from the University of Kansas. He married Louanna Cole on August 27, 1960. He was a lifelong fan of the Jayhawks and the Kansas City Chiefs. Bob was a CPA who retired as Chief Financial Officer of Vita Craft Corp. after working at the company for 25 years. Bob had a kind heart and an undying love for his family. Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Joseph Simmons, and sisters Betty Sabin and Mary Trusler. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Louanna, son Dayton Simmons, daughters Brooke (Charles) Lamb, Tracy (Brad) Bakerink, grandson Jack Bakerink, brother Tom (Cathie) Simmons, and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express grateful appreciation to Saint Luke's Home Care & Hospice for the care that Bob received.
