Robert A. Ramseyer, 84, of Prairie Village, died March 3, 2009 after a battle with cancer. He was born on May 1, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Bob was a life-long member of Country Club Christian Church where he served as a life elder, youth leader, and a member of the Tri C’s Sunday School Class since 1950. He continued a tradition established by his father in leading the church’s Easter Breakfast for more than five decades.
He became an Eagle Scout in 1939 and was a Keeper of the Wampum in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Bob served on the camp staff at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation and continued to make visits to camp throughout his life.
Bob attended Border Star Grade School and was a 1941 graduate of Southwest High School.
He retired from the United States Navy as Commander after 25 years of active and reserve duty. During World War II, he served 22 months as deck officer through several Pacific invasions including the Philippines and Iwo Jima.
Bob graduated from the University of Kansas with degrees in Political Science (1947) and in Business (1948). He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Bob was a regional manager with the E.D. Etnyre & Co. for 25 years.
He married Dorothy Louise Stephenson on November 4, 1950. They were married 45 years until her death in 1996. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Mabel. He is survived by his children Rob (Ann) of Wichita; Sally Ramseyer Beck (Carter) of De Soto; Roger (Terri) of Wichita, and countless friends, including his special friend, Irene Klein of Leawood. He also leaves grandchildren Ruthie Ramseyer VanDever (Ryan), Robby and Alan Ramseyer, Julie and Katie Beck, Ryan and Emily Ramseyer.
Visitation will be held on Sunday Mar. 8 from 4 to 6 pm at D.W. Newcomer’s Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf. A reception will be held at 10 am Monday, Mar. 9 at the church with the funeral at 11 am. Burial at Mt. Moriah Cemetery following.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Country Club Christian Church (designated for the Boy Scout Camp Scholarship Fund), 6101 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64113.
