Robert was born February 3, 1925 at Herington, KS. The family moved to Kansas City, KS in 1932 where Bob attended public schools, graduating from Wyandotte High School in 1942 and later from the University of Kansas with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. At KU he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and was elected to Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Tau and Pi Tau Sigma, honorary engineering fraternities.
After employment with TWA airline and Black and Veatch Engineers, he became a partner and later president of Massaglia . Neustrom . Bredson, Consulting Engineers. For 30 years his firm designed mechanical and electrical systems for hospitals, schools, offices, public buildings and industries in addition to water supply and sewage systems. He was a registered professional engineer in eleven states and Alberta, Canada.
Bob was veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was commissioned as an officer at Columbia University Midshipman School and served on destroyers as Lieutenant, Senior Grade in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
Bob was the founding member of Shawnee Mission Unitarian Universalist Church and was active in its affairs for 40 years.
Upon retirement Bob lived at Lake Lotawana where he volunteered for 15 years as City Engineer, fireman, EMT on the ambulance service, deputy director of emergency management and teacher in literacy classes.
He is survived by Janice, his wife of 55 years, daughters Nancy Neustrom, Sarah Becker, and Lee Anne Stein, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. His son Edward (Ned) preceded him in death.
