ROBERT H. MCLAUGHLIN
Robert M. McLaughlin, 91, died October 28th,2011 at the Missouri Veterans Home in
Cameron, Mo of natural causes. Bob was born February 9,1920 in Kansas City, Mo to
Liotta and C. E. Mcl.aughlin. He graduated from Southwest High School in 1937 and
briefly attended UMKC before going to work for Bruce Dodson Insurance Co. At the
outbreak of World War II he enlisted in the Army Aircorp becoming a pilot ofB-26
bombers. He met and married the love of his life, Peggy J. Stith, on January 1, 1943. He
was then sent to Sardinia and flew 66 combat missions over Italy returning home in 1944.
After his return he flew briefly for TW A before starting his own insurance business -
McLaughlin Insurance Agency - with his partner Bill Oldham. He retired from his
business in 1998. He and Peggy were married for 65 years living in their first and only
house for 59 years before her death in 2008.
Bob love to play golf, work in the yard and entertain friends. He was known for being
such a kind and sociable gentleman. He was also a member of the VFW and the ELKS,
the later being in the last decades where he and Peggy would go often with friends.
Bob is survived by his son, Robert M. Mclaughlin Jr. and daughter-in -law Barb of
Leawood, KS and his sister Barbara Hoffman of Holmes Beach, FL.
The family wishes to convey its most gracious thanks to all of the caregivers at the Dover
Point wing of the Veterans Home in Cameron, MO. They provided such wonderful care
for Bob during his tenure there.
A gathering for friends will be held Sunday November 6th at Robert M. McLaughlin Jr.' s
home from 4:00 pm - 8:00 to celebrate Bob's life. Cremation. In lieu of flowers or
contributions, the family wishes for everyone to give the ones they love a hug and tell
them how much they care. Cherish the days, for Bob and Peggy did for so many of their
years.
