Robert “Stan” Hanson, 90, of Coulter, Iowa, formerly of Kansas City, Kansas, went to his Heavenly Home on October 9, 2023 at the Hampton Rehabilitation Center.
Robert Stanley Hanson was born May 2, 1933, to Selmer and Alice Honer Hanson, the second of three children. He grew up on the family farm south of Leona, Kansas. He graduated from Leona High School in 1952 and attended one year of business school in St. Joseph, Mo.
He met his wife Evelyn at an event at the Leona school. They were married on November 27, 1952 and celebrated sixty three years of marriage before Evelyn passed away in 2015. Stan and Evelyn lived in Denton, Kansas for several years before moving to Kansas City, Mo. where Stan began working in retail at the Jones Store and Evelyn was a hairdresser.
In 1963 they moved to Kansas City, Kansas where they raised their three daughters: Katherine, Margaret, and Elizabeth.
They became members of Our Saviour Lutheran Church where Stan found many ways to serve God in his church in many positions: he was an Elder, supporting his Pastor, he sang in the church choir, served on the board of education for the Church school, and attended many Bible studies.
Stan loved to hunt, but his real love was fishing from the time he was taught to fish by his Dad with a stick cane pole. He went on several fishing trips to Wisconsin and Canada with his family and friends and continued a family fishing trip to Minnesota which started with his Dad, Selmer, shortly after World War I with some Army buddies. The fishing trips continue to this day with several generations.
Stan is survived by daughters, Katherine (Jim) Warwick and Margaret (Jerry) Watkins; grandchildren: Nate (Malinda) Warwick, Danielle (Joel) McDonough, Robert and Ryan Watkins and Liam Howey; seven great grandchildren; and his sister, Marilyn Suman.
Stan was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; his sister, Rosemary and brother-in-law Bill Barrand; his parents, Selmer and Alice Hanson; and his daughter, Elizabeth Howey Hanson.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Hampton Rehabilitation Center for their excellent care and the friends he made.
Stan will be remembered for his fishing tales, loving to visit with anyone he met, and being a person who was strong in his faith. He will be missed by many.
