Robert A. "Bob" Grier, 84, Shawnee, KS, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 2, 2012, wrapped in the love of his wife, family and friends. Born June 20, 1928, in Abilene, TX, Bob settled in Kansas City after his service in the Army. April 2, 1952, was the day he married the love of his life, Dee Todd. Recipient of numerous local, regional, and national awards, Bob was a photographer by profession. His clients included TWA, Kansas City Chiefs, Breech Training Academy, Vita-Craft, Vendo and Cabella's. He owned and operated several photography studios in the Kansas City area. His dedication to his community included 13 years as a volunteer fireman for the Shawnee, KS, Fire Department and Rescue Squad. He was honored in 1982 as Firefighter of the Year, 1983 as Rescue Person of the Year, and in 1991, he received the prestigious Kenneth Dewing Award for outstanding dedication and service to the fire department. In addition to various other community projects, Bob was actively involved with his church, Shawnee Park Christian Church, and he served dinner at Micah Ministries every Monday night for nearly ten years. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Dee; daughter, Deanne Yates and her husband, Dan; their children, Bret, Leslie Greer (Buddy), Kali, and Max; son, Randy and his children, Emily, William, and Jill; daughter-in-law, Kathy and her son, Graham; brother, William Grier; and many dear friends. Bob was preceded in death by a son, Rob. Bob's spirit and love will live on in his family and friends. A celebration of his life will be held Mon., Sept. 10, at 6:30 p.m., Shawnee Park Christian Church (friends received at 5:30 p.m.). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the church.
