Robert E. "Bob" Orrick, 88, of Leawood, KS, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2010. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel with a visitation prior from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Blue Valley Christian Church, 12251 Lamar Avenue, Overland Park, KS 66209 or The Children's Place 2 E. 59TH, Kansas City, MO 64113. Bob was born August 11, 1921 in Lenape, KS to Homer and Goldie Orrick. He graduated from Wyandotte High School and attended Kansas Wesleyan College, Salina, KS. Bob married Virginia "Ginnie" Lyth on June 12, 1947 in Kansas City, KS. He served in the Marine Corp in the South Pacific from June 1942 to December 1945. Bob worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in various capacities for 43 years, first as a college student as a night janitor and retiring as Assistant to the General Manager of the Union Pacific in 1984. Bob was a member of Blue Valley Christian Church and of the DeSoto Masonic Lodge #40 for 64 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and winters on Padre Island after retirement. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Alfred Orrick. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Ginnie; a daughter, Debby, and her husband, John Howland, of Jefferson City, MO; four grandchildren: Jill Howland Westra and her husband Johannes Westra of Gaborone, Botswana, Africa and their daughter Julia Jane; Jeff Howland of Leawood, KS; Scott Orrick of Omaha, NE; and David Orrick of New Orleans, LA.
