Robert F. Blake, 87, long time resident of the Forum at Overland Park, KS, and Roeland Park, KS, passed away December 14, 2007 at KC Hospice House. Bob was born May 2, 1920, in Minneapolis, MN to Frank Joseph and Mable Corine (Turnquist) Blake. Bob?s wife of sixty years Elizabeth (Betty) Anne (Eaton) Blake and his daughter, Barbara Anne Blake-Krebs preceded Robert in death. Survivors include son, Steve and wife Helen Blake; son, Mike and wife Mary Beth Blake, and their daughters, Meg (Blake) Young and husband Ryan and Betsy Blake; son-in law, Fred Krebs; granddaughter, Kandi Krebs; great granddaughter, Aaryn Krebs; grand god son, Paul Tilson; and after the loss of their spouses of 60 and 50 years, respectively, his loving friend, Virginia McIntyre.
Robert graduated from the University of Minnesota where he was the first President of the Union Board of Governors (B.B.A., Accounting, Economics 1941) and the University of Missouri, Kansas City (M. Public Admin., Health Services 1972). Bob first worked on various heavy construction projects managed by his step-father, Jack King, for Al Johnston Construction Co., Minneapolis, including Military Airfield construction in Newfoundland, Southampton and Baffin Islands, Canada. After graduation from the U of M, he joined the business training squad of General Electric in Bridgeport, Connecticut. In 1942 Bob and Betty moved to New York where be became an auditor for Price Waterhouse & Co. They then returned to Minneapolis in 1944 where he performed audits for Arthur Andersen & Co., with an interruption for duty in the Navy during WWII as an Aviation Store Keeper, Second Class. In 1948, Bob became a buyer and Assistant Controller for the Associated Dry Goods Corporation for Powers-Minneapolis and McCreery?s New York. In 1954, he became a consultant in the Institutional Division for hospitals and universities at Cresap, McCormick and Paget, NY, NY. In 1955, Bob and Betty moved to Kansas City where he was first a buyer and then a Store Manager [Joplin, MO and the Antioch shopping Center] for R. H. Macy & Co. In 1970, Bob became an Instructor in Human Ecology at the KU School of Medicine and Administrator of its Children and Youth Project at 5th and Quindaro, Kansas City, Kansas. From 1974 to 1978, Bob performed audits and program studies for the Kansas Department of Social Services. Bob retired in 1979 and enjoyed many years of travel, golf, sailing, and managing his farms near Melvern, KS. Bob had a wonderful combination of laughter and caring, wisdom and understanding, gentleness and strength and will always be remembered and loved. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2007 with reception following at the Old Mission United Methodist Church, 5519 State Park Road, Fairway, KS at Shawnee Mission Parkway and Mission Road. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
