Robert Shaw Armacost, Jr. passed away May 8th. A memorial service will be at noon on Monday, May 11, at the Saddle and Sirloin Club, 14401 Holmes Road. Bob was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, September 3, 1921, and moved to Kansas City with his family in 1930. After attending Border Star Grade School and Southwest High School, where he lettered in football for three years, he attended Notre Dame University, playing freshman football. In 1940 he attended the University of Kansas City, majoring in business. He was a member of the Greatest Generation. In 1942, he and Marilynn Graham were married. Bob enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was honored with a Purple Heart for his service. In 1945, Bob returned home to his wife and daughter and joined his father and brother in the family business, Armacost Motors, selling Studebakers. In 1958 Bob chose to sell Pontiacs. He was president of the Kansas City (Motor) Car Dealers association, Missouri Automobile Dealers association and the National Automobile Dealers Association, served on the Chamber of Commerce and belonged to Sertoma as a club director. Despite being city-bred, Bob was a successful cattleman from 1964 through 1979. He had an uncanny sense of when to sell and when to buy and a great love of the outdoors. He was a volunteer for the Heartland School of Riding, an organization that helps handicapped children learn to ride horseback. Bob was a member of the Country Club Christian Church, Mission Hills Country Club, The Kansas City Club, Indian Hills Country Club and the Saddle and Sirloin Club, where he served as president in 1969. He was a member of Roundup Riders of the Rockies, proudly riding the trail for 22 years, and a member of the Holy Ghost Riders. He was preceded in death by his son Robert III, his parents, Robert Sr. and Viola, his sisters Gladys Scherer and Jean (Wood) James, and his brother Don. He will be missed by his remaining children, Pamela (Robert) Bertoncin, Chris (Carol) Armacost, his grandchildren Jarrett S. Bertoncin, Jacquelynn S. Bertoncin and Scott Armacost Chapman, and his many friends who all wish him Happy Trails forever!
