RICHARD WAGNER SCHMIDT, II
Richard Wagner Schmidt II, 56, passed away March 5, 2011. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, March 10th at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel; graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Glen Carbon, IL. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics of Kansas, 5280 Foxridge Dr., Shawnee Mission, KS 66202 in memory of Richard Schmidt II and in honor of Mark Schmidt.
Rick was born in Edwardsville, IL to Richard A. and LaVerne Schmidt. He graduated from Shawnee Mission South High School in 1972 and from Kansas State University in 1976, and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He was an insurance agent for over 30 years. Rick was active in the Kansas City Men’s Senior Baseball League. He umpired in conferences: MIAA, Jayhawk, Ban Johnson Collegiate Baseball League, Heart of America, KCAC, and as USSSA Supervisor.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jeffrey Schmidt. Survivors include his children: Richard W. Schmidt III (Angela); Greta (Oleg) Gromovich; Erich Schmidt; brothers, Ron Harris and Lance Schmidt; grandchildren: R.W. Schmidt IV and Norah Schmidt; Mila and Anya Gromovich.
