Richard Sutton

August 21, 1931 — June 1, 2011

RICHARD (R.P.) SUTTON
Richard (R.P) Sutton, 79, Overland Park Kansas passed away on June 1, 2011, after a brief illness.
Richard was born on August 21, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the youngest of four sons born to James and Anna Sutton. Richard loved to share stories about his childhood in Chicago during the Great Depression and World War II. One of his first jobs was delivering rationed meat for his uncle to high rise apartments on Lake Shore Drive. In college he played basketball for the University of Detroit until he was called to Korea. He served faithfully and came home to Chicago as a Purple Heart recipient. Once home he began his career with Georgia Pacific and later worked for International Paper. Not only was he considered a talented employee, but more importantly to him, he was also recognized as a fair and honest boss.
In 1957, Richard married his wife, Mary Kenny Sutton, and together they moved through several states (New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania) taking multiple promotions until finally settling in Overland Park. Kansas. When he was not working, Richard loved to sing both in the church choir and at gatherings with friends and family. His family and friends could always recognize his voice, distinct from the chorus.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Diane Langdon, and her husband, Jim of Kansas City, Missouri; by his three sons: David and his wife Kim, of Overland Park, Kansas; William, of Overland Park Kansas; and Ken, and his wife Julianne, of Tucson, Arizona; six grandchildren: David Langdon and his wife, Heather, of Kansas City, Missouri; Russell Langdon of Gladstone, Missouri: Emily and Jack Sutton of Overland Park, Kansas; and Adele and Addison Sutton of Tucson, Arizona.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kenny Sutton in 2001.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday July 1. 2011 at Holy Cross Catholic Church 9311 West 93rd St, Overland Park, Kansas. Share a memory, sign an online guestbook, or express your condolences at www.overlandparkchapel.com
