Mr. Richard Chowins

Richard D. Chowins, 93, of Leawood, KS, died Sunday, September 28, 2008. Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Friday, October 3, 2008 at St. Andrew?s Episcopal Church, 6401 Wornall Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64113. The family will receive visitors immediately following the service. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church.
Richard was born October 11, 1914 in Lincoln, NE and was a graduate of the University of Nebraska with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was very active in scouting for over 25 years. He served as a District Commissioner and was a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was an active member of St. Andrew?s Episcopal Church and served as head usher for many years. Richard was an avid bridge player, woodworker and enjoyed working in and caring for his yard. He spent time almost every summer of his life at the family cabin on Pelican Lake in northern Minnesota.
He married Laura (Mildred) Righter on February 12, 1939 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Lincoln, NE. She preceded him in death on January 5, 2007. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Carol Miller, Kansas City, MO; two sons, Richard D. Chowins, Jr and his wife Jill Renae, Cape Coral, FL and Charles W. Chowins and his wife Judith Kay, Davidson, NC; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
