RICHARD MARTIN BALLANTYNE
Richard Martin Ballantyne, 87, went to heaven surrounded by his family on August 14, 2011. He was born March 2, 1924 to Ruby and Walter Ballantyne. He graduated from Central High School and married his high school sweetheart Betty Isham.
He was a blimp pilot for the Navy during WWII, becoming a Lieutenant JG. Richard worked 41 years at Hallmark Cards advancing from stock boy to Graphic Arts Manager. After retirement from Hallmark Cards, he enjoyed traveling and spending time at his home at the Lake of Ozarks with his family. He liked his violin, playing bridge and boating.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Ballantyne, his son Paul (Karen); his daughter Sharon (Bob) Shofstall; his granddaughters Amy (Korey) Follmer, Rebecca & Mary Ballantyne, and Lisa Shofstall; and great-granddaughter Sarah Follmer.
Visitation will be held at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel Tuesday, Aug 16, 6:00-8:00 pm; funeral services at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 6306 Roe Ave., Prairie Village, KS, Aug 17, Wednesday 10:00 am; burial Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Southminster Presbyterian Church or KC Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Rd, KC, MO 64145.
