Rex Hay of Prairie Village, KS, passed away February 9, 2010. Born September 18, 1921 in Cleveland Ohio to Elbert Curtis and Evelyn Shively Hay. After graduating high school, Rex completed courses in aviation mechanics. He served in World War II, Army Air Corps, B29 Flight Engineer from 1942 to 1946. In 1943 Rex and Mary were wed, they were married for 55 years before Mary preceded him in death in 1998. He married Sheryl Wright in 2000. Rex earned an electrical engineering degree from KU in 1949 where he was featured in the KU Engineering magazine (The Greatest Generation.) He resided in Prairie Village for 56 years. His career included Crown Center project, Black & Veatch, and REMAR. Rex was a Boy Scout leader, Troop 92, Cherokee Christian Church elder, Master Flower Judge, election official, master plumber, Friends of the Library member & volunteer and coached 3 & 2 Little League. Rex participated in the Oral History Veterans Project, was a charter Member of WW II Veterans Memorial, Member of Jewish War Veterans and strong supporter of Israel. Survivors include his three children and two step children. Julie, John, Jim, Sean and Erin, nine grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren with the last one being born on the day Rex passed away. Celebration of Rex’s life will be February 12, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Corinth Cemetery, 3301 W. 83rd St. Prairie Village, KS.
