Raymond Fletcher Davis, 88, of Kansas City, MO passed away Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Kingswood Senior Living Community. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 11th at the Country Club United Methodist Church, 400 W. 57th St., Kansas City, MO 64113. Private interment at Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 10th, at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the church.
Ray was born May 18, 1920 to Clarence and Florence (Fletcher) Davis in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from Southwest High School and the University of Kansas with a Bachelors’ degree in Business and Finance. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. Ray was an army veteran of World War II where he was a 1st Lieutenant and a survivor of the Normandy invasion in France. He married Billie Doris Jarboe on December 6, 1942 and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last December.
Ray was an Investment Banker with Stern Brothers for 43 years and retired in 1987. He was a life member of the Country Club United Methodist Church where he was baptized and also served on the Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Milburn Country Club since 1950 and enjoyed their golf course frequently. Ray was also a member of the Kansas City Club, Woodside Racquet Club, Saddle and Sirloin Club, Western Investors, Native Sons and Daughters of KC, The Disciples, and a charter member of the Vanguard Club.
Ray was very involved in the community. He was a lifetime member of the Friends of the Zoo and past president and director of the board. He was a sponsor and Governor of the American Royal for many years.
Ray’s favorite places to be were at his winter residence of Waianae, HI and his summer cottage on Star Island in Cass Lake, MN with friends and family. He was an avid hunter and a member and past president of Hartwell Hunting Club since 1949. Ray and family also enjoyed the yearly grapefruit from his grapefruit farm in the McAllen, TX area and owned a home at the Valley International Golf Course in Brownsville, TX.
Survivors include his wife and constant companion, Billie and his children, Larry Jarboe Davis, James Fletcher Davis (Jeff), and Debbie Anne LeGrotte. There are seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Ray’s family was his pride and joy and he was beloved by all of them.
