Patricia Jane Wakefield

Patricia (Pat) Jane Kennedy Wakefield, 78, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. A Celebration of her life will be held with a Memorial Service at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Chapel, 8201 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS on Saturday, September 6th, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation with the family will follow immediately after.
Pat was born June 25, 1930 in Kansas City, MO. She had an interest in artwork all her life, a favorite hobby that she turned into a professional career. Starting in 1961, at the Cambridge House she taught classes over 20 years during which time she earned her Master Certification in the Society of Decorative Painters. Her professional life included teaching art classes all over the United States, Provinces of Canada, including Nova Scotia. She participated in many national conventions, authored 38 art instructional books and international painting magazines. Pat and her husband traveled extensively while teaching, enjoying the sightseeing during their many trips.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. John D. and Irene Kennedy and her brother, Dr. Lawrence L. Kennedy. She is survived by her husband, Richard N. Wakefield Jr. of 58 years of the home; children, Laura Kaufman, Rebecca Cheatham, Richard N. Wakefield III; 7 grandchildren; and brother, John D. Kennedy Jr.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Salvation Army, 3637 Broadway, K.C., MO 64111 or to the City Union Mission, 1100 E. 11th St., K.C., MO 64106.
