Nell Dean

Nell Ann Allenbrand-Gaunt-Dean was born in Andrew County, MO on October 30, 1936 to AC and Pearl Smith-Allenbrand.  She was the third child of what would be thirteen children.  Nell attended primary school at Prairie Star, a one room schoolhouse.  She went on to graduate from John P. St John High School’s class of 1954 in Olathe, Kansas.

Nell Ann was one of the first women to serve in the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.  It was the beginning of a lifetime of service in the judicial system for her.  Nell worked as the Administrative Assistant and Financial Officer for the Judicial Council in Topeka, Kansas.  She was also active in Eastern Star.

Nell Ann is survived by her three boys, John R. Gaunt (wife Debbie), Jeff L. Gaunt, and Jay C. Gaunt; her grandchildren, John R, Gaunt Jr. (wife Rachel) and Amanda K. Gaunt-Smith; and her five great-grandchildren, Gracie M. Gaunt, John R. Gaunt 3rd, Zoe K. Gaunt, Max M. Gaunt, and Parker K. Smith.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022 at noon at the VFW in DeSoto, Kansas.  Located at 33725 W 84th Street, DeSoto, Kansas 66018.
