Neil Morris

March 11, 1927 — March 23, 2015

Neil E. Morris, 88, went to be with the Lord on March 23, 2015, passing away at his home in Lenexa.
Neil was born in Dodge City, KS, on March 11, 1927, the oldest child of Robert and Bernita Morris.  With 7 brothers and sisters, he grew up in rural areas of Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas.  He married Betty England of Lenexa, KS, his beloved wife of 65 years, on August 24, 1950, before entering the US Army on September 27, 1950.  He served in the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged in 1954.
Neil was a firefighter for Fire District #3 of Johnson County from 1959-1982.  After retiring from faithful service there, he worked for the Shawnee Mission school district, Johnson County Transit, and various part-time jobs.  He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and enjoyed daily visits to his friends at Costco.
Neil was an active member of Nall Avenue Church of the Nazarene for over 40 years, serving as an usher and attending the men’s prayer breakfast each week up until his death.  He also enjoyed the Sunday evening service of Westside Church of the Nazarene in Olathe for the last 10 years.
Neil bought and restored a 1930 Model A Town Sedan, which he loved to drive in the Lenexa July 4th parade and the Tonganoxie St. Patrick’s Day parade each year.  He was a member of the Plain Ol’ A’s Model A Ford Club of Kansas.
Neil is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.  He is survived by his wife Betty, son Gene (wife Debbie) of Olathe, son Jeff (wife Susan) of Overland Park, and 5 granddaughters—Lisa, Emily, Laura, Heidi, and Elsa.  He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother, and a kind friend to many.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Saturday, March 28, at Nall Ave. Church of the Nazarene, 6301 Nall, Mission, KS.  Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30am at the church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be given to the Missions Fund of Nall Ave. Church of the Nazarene.  To share a memory or send condolences, please visit www.overlandparkchapel.com.
